Before you sign

  1. One photo from afar, one up close. The wide one shows where the damage is; the close one shows what it looks like. Write the photo number on the sheet.
Example: open kitchen of an empty flat, wooden floor
    Kitchen
Example: bathroom with bath, toilet and basin
    Bathroom
Example: ceiling with paint peeling from damp
    Damp on the bathroom ceiling
  2. Note the small things too.A chipped tile or a damp patch that looks like nothing today is exactly what gets argued about later.
  3. Send it to the landlord in the first days.A checklist the landlord received and did not dispute counts for more than one left in a drawer.
Example: open kitchen of an empty flat, wooden floor
